1955 Austin A30

 Galloping Gertie the Racing Thirty

Basic spec in addition to the compulsory Academy parts:
Acid dipped and seam welded shell.  Fibreglass wings, bonnet, bootlid & bumpers.  Laminated windscreen.  Polycarbonate windows.

Etch primed and painted in Island Blue with a complete OEW roof.  Custom made lightweight interior in dove grey.

Bespoke pedalbox.  Carbon-metallic brake pads. Front/rear brake bias valve fitted.

American sourced adjustable dampers fitted all round.
Lightweight race battery.  Bespoke wiring loom in thinwall cable.

NOS Aldon Yellow distributor, converted to contactless ignition.
Lightweight 1.6kW gear driven starter.  Lightweight alternator.

Thermostatically controlled oil cooler.  Uprated water pump.  Quick-release catch-tank.

Heathrow Transmissions rebuilt 4.2 differential.

6-point Sparco harness.
25kgs of moveable ballast to achieve the 670 kg minimum weight requirement.
One of the few racing cars with working trafficators.  Road legal (currently taxed).

The engine was set up and been run in exactly to the CMES instructions, using Joe Gibbs Racing oils and suggested timings – and hasn’t missed a beat (unlike some).

Engine further tuned by A-Series legend Steve Harris on the Janspeed rolling road.  Dyno sheets available.

Running time consists of two testing days, plus the Revival – less than four hours in total.

Included with the car:
Three sets of wheels with good tyres – essentially a wet set, a dry set and a hot temperature set.
Brand new unused 3.9 differential as built by Heathrow Transmissions and plenty of gaskets to change between ratios.  Correct monograde diff oil, which is tricky to find.

Stack of oil filters and Joe Gibbs racing oil.  Gearbox oil.
Many litres of 105 octane leaded race fuel.  Refuelling dump can.

Spare front hub built up ready to fit.
Oil seals, wheel bearings,
Paint left over from her rebuild.
Anything else I’ve got that is race relevant.

This is a fast car - consistently at the top of the speed trap figures she was fastest of all down the Lavant straight.  With zero seat time Nicolas Minassian qualified fourth for race one, and Jason Stanley finished fifth in race two.  On outright laptime, Jason was 3 seconds a lap faster than the 7th placed car and lower, while challenging the leaders throughout the race.
There is still an enormous amount of untapped potential left in the car as we did basically no chassis setup – Jason was just getting used to his first RWD racecar and Nic didn’t have time to adjust anything, and yet it was only 0.7sec off the fastest lap overall.

While a car could be converted from a road car with no bodywork repairs for around £25,000 it wouldn’t be competitive - the successful cars cost considerably more than that to put together properly, with many of the front runners topping £50,000.

This car is proven to be competitive – anyone with a modicum of ability should be right up at the front straight away.

The car has a V5C (UK road registration certificate) and it is currently taxed and insured for road use.

The car has an entry in the Silverstone Classic 2017 which is transferable to the new owner.
