Swift Kon Tiki 6/40
This 1990 Kon Tiki 640/6 has been owned by me for the past 21 years. Its use has been as motor racing paddock base and as the mobile logistics/ feeding centre for a now 20-year-old annual charity bike ride created among friends, which has earned its lady founder an MBE and this year is expected to reach £1m to help kids in local authority so-called 'care'. The bike ride is now being passed on to a younger generation and this is the year I expect finally to hang up my race helmet. The Kon Tiki, old friend as it has become, is essentially of no further use to us. It passed its latest MoT about 3 months ago, with no advisories. That said, its habitation side could do with some very small attention from an owner happy to enjoy an hour or two of remedial TLC:
The gas igniter switch on the Cascade 2 water heater packed up on the bike ride, although it works happily on the mains; there is a slow drip developed from the flexible and highly accessible cold water pipe under the sink (also bike ride); and an enthusiastic owner might care to tidy up the few bits of non structural and barely noticeable cosmetic corrosion at the front of the Ducato cab which was of no concern to MoT.Sensibly, I would do it myself but don't have time or inclination, so reflected in the price. It's not concours, obviously, but it's perfectly repectable and the interior really rather smart. For another motor racer or anyone not well off, and maybe with a small family, It's a pretty good circuit or holiday answer. It's got:
3 double berths;
16ft x 8ft roll-out awning which converts to a safari room housed in the top box with windowed sidewalls, velcro curtains and usable as slicks/wets/parts store and pit, large dining room or bedroom/storage ( dining table inside - opposite sink, fridge, hob, cooker);
2.5 turbo diesel, cruising all day 65-70mph and approx 28mpg, even when towing the 935 recreation;
driver-adjustable electric power steering;
wireless rear camera;
tow bar, bike rack
windscreen sun screens for when parked;
full four-layer weatherproof cover for winter storage;
Has covered 84k miles.
£7995 but will reimburse for heater and tap leak if a buyer opts to farm out.
