1986 Porsche 944 Turbo Factory Race Car
In 1986, the Porsche Factory built 9 Porsche 944 Turbo Cars for the Escort Endurance Race Series to compete against Chevrolet Corvettes. In February 1986 Porsche air freighted the first 5 Cars to the Holbert Porsche in USA . These cars were considered by the factory to be development cars and were built as club sport cars by the factory with factory modifications including suspension, cyclinder head, intake , brakes , etc .This car now availible was originally Purchased by Sewickley Porsche Audi and raced under a factory porsche agreement as a Rothmans Sponsored 944 with Derek Bell, Kees Nierop, and Ludwig Heimrath for the 1986 Budweiser 24 hour of Mosport. The team qualified 5 and was the 3 Porsche turbo to finish the race in 8 th overall position. This car also competed at the Escort 24 Hours of Mid Ohio in Sept 1986 where it finished 3 Turbo Porsche and 11 th over all.
The Car retains it's original drivetrain which was rebuilt some years ago. There are Forgeline wheels currently on the car however we have an original set of factory Fuchs with special offset built specifically for this car. The car is mostly original and represents a significant Porsche Factory effort in showroom stock endurance racing in North America.
