1964 Lotus Elan S1 - for classic racing series
This is the earliest registered Elan S1 (1/1/64) with the body made at the Lotus factory, after outsourcing to Bourne ceased. It was a single owner car until 2015. I have a letter from the original owner, Mr McCabe of Cambridge stating that the car was factory fitted with black dash and rare 26R style steering wheel.
In 2001 it was fitted with a new galanised chassis by Peter Day.
I bought the Elan in 2017 and ran it in a handful of hill climb events whilst awaiting the build of my Elan GTS.
To prepare the car for hill climbs I had a full recommissioning by Paul Matty Sportscars with 2 bills totalling £9500. Work included fully adjustable TTR fast road suspension, solid drive shafts, rebuilt gearbox and fitting of roll bar.
In 2020/21 I have had a full body restoration in original Carmen Red plus fitting of removable hardtop, I also have an as new soft top, repainted hood bars and restored door surrounds. The body restoration is outstanding.
The interior of the Elan is completely original (bar the door cards) as is the engine bay and boot.
The car would be suitable for various race series which require standard body shape and chassis - minor works to fit new fuel tank, electrical cut off and maybe add extra roll protection.
I am selling the car at £35,000 without engine or at £39,750 with recently rebuilt twin cam (122bhp) and Weber 40DCOE2 carbs.
