Lotus Seven S2 1963
This is a beautifully presented Lotus Super 7 in stunning condition, having covered only 178 miles since a major refurbishment, which included full engine and gearbox re-builds.
Originally a UK RHD supplied car (chassis no. 1605) that was exported to California USA at some point during its life – we believe from paperwork/invoices we have to hand; this would have been in the mid ‘80’s. Our customer re-imported the car in 2011 with a view to racing it in the UK.
The Lotus had previously been prepared for racing, which included having a Lotus twin cam engine fitted at some time in its life. In support of this racing history, it comes with a 2008 FIA passport, where it appears in yellow/green livery. Prior to our customer re-importing the car, the colour was change to its current satin black / polished aluminium with maroon stripe.
On arrival back in the UK, it was re-registered with the DVLA under a period registration number ANH 317A. It was then sent to us, for a full re-build and race preparation.
At the time, none of the major championship organisers would allow an S2 Lotus 7 to race with a twin cam engine, as this was not a standard engine fitted in period. They would however, allow it to run with a Ford crossflow engine, as these were fitted to S2’s in its production life.
The twin cam was removed and sold, and we built and installed a crossflow unit to race/fast road spec running on twin 40 Webers. The brief was to re-build the car so that the owner could use for it for both road and race. The car was stripped to its chassis and all corroded/worn aluminium panels were replaced. Suspension, steering, brakes and transmission were all re-built to race spec level. We also fitted the seven with our upgraded, bespoke made, highest quality aluminium radiator (with electric fan), oil cooler and aluminium fuel tank with MSA approved foam filling.
The car was finished to the highest standards, completed and delivered back to the owner in late 2012, ready for the 2013 season.
However, due to work commitments overseas since then, the owner has never had a chance to race the car. Subsequently, he had us remove some of the race parts so the car was more road user friendly for his occasional UK visits. Since we completed the work on the car it has been used very sparingly, covering just 178 miles in the following years.
This is a super quick Lotus 7, that could easily be raced in HSCC/CSCC (albeit with a little work), and do very well in the right hands.
Equally, it would not take a lot to returned the car to standard UK road spec - as the basic chassis/car are in perfect condition and it comes with its original windscreen, windscreen frame, side screens and hood. On the other hand, you could simply enjoyed this fantastic Lotus 7 as it is.
This Lotus Super 7 is competitively priced, and offered at a fraction of our customer’s purchase/build cost.
