Very historic Lotus Type 14 Elite - ex Innis Ireland
This beautiful Lotus’ Type 14 Elite with its innovative unitary fibreglass monocoque body/chassis and Coventry-Climax’s 1216cc aluminium single overhead cam engine endowers a light machine with an exceptional power-to-weight ratio which, allied to a very low drag factor and phenomenal handling from independent suspension, make it a spirited performer, capable of well over 100mph and an exceptional racing car.
Lotus build records show chassis 1182, as completed in 1960, and supplied to none other than Innes Ireland, the capable Scot who won Team Lotus’ first World Championship Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, New York, in 1961.
A superb period road and race car – originally the property of Team Lotus’ first Formula 1 Grand Prix winner – fresh from long-term ownership and ready not only to be admired but also to demonstrate the Elite’s legendary dynamics at the world’s premier motorsport events for which it is eminently eligible
