Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth Thundersaloon
2003 championship winning car originally built and driven by Dave Thomas with no expense spared.
This car has competed in many championships over the years including Thundersaloons, Formula Saloons, BARC Classic Thunder, Dunlop Modified Saloons and CSCC Special Saloons, finishing with a number of podium finishes.
This truely one-off car has recently been rebuilt from the bottom up, including a fresh Geoff Page Racing YB Cosworth engine and reconditioned T4 Garrett turbo with 247 maram shaft with running in and minimal testing hours on race fuel.
The car is ready to be raced with brand new harness, fire extinguisher and a set of fresh Avon A11 slicks.
This car needs to be seen to be believed. The concept was created by Dave Thomas with vast Ford Capri racing experience to promote his Ford dealership. This influence can be seen by removal of the original independant axel and replacement Salisbury 4HA powerlock live axel. The car also benifits from a rear mounted cooling radiator hence the side air intakes, keeping all the unwanted heat away from the large core intercooler, etc.
The suspension design is superb, Dave Thomas knew how to make a car handle. His original setup notes are still in the file! The rear 5 link suspension points were desinged and fabricated by Leda and the front uprights are one-off billet aluminuim specials using Bilstein damper inserts. Even with the c. 500 hp of the engine the thing that suprises you the most is the shear grip of the thing, helped along with those huge 11.0" (front) & 12.5" (rear) wide Avon slicks.
Braking is done by rare sets of freshly rebuilt AP Racing CP2545 (4 pot - 330mm) up front and a set of ex-6R4 AP racing at the rear (4 pot - 300mm). The gearbox is a 5 speed Getrag (1:1 5th) with down dogleg 1st H-pattern arrangment with the extremly rare RS500 extra long bell-housing to shift the weight towards the rear. The clutch is a proper AP Racing tripple plate 7.25" as well as the original 5.5" tripple and flywheel setup as a spare for rolling start events if required.
There are 2 complete sets of Compomotive wheels and 1 x front pair of minilites. The original body moulds and various spares will come with the car.
Fresh paint and vinyl applied to replicate it's original livery. This is a very well known car and it's only due to ill health that I'm considering selling, hence open to only serious offers!
