Pulsar GSXR1000 K8 Race/Hillclimb Car
Pulsar cars were first designed and built as a Canam style clubman race car by well-known designer Rob Bicknell in the early 1990s and received rave reviews in the press for their design and performance.
They were initially designed for car engines (Ford, Vauxhall) and subsequently for bike (Fireblade, GSXR) engines so approximately 15 were built altogether. They have been used successfully since then in hillclimbing and racing throughout the UK and Europe, and at least one has even been road registered.
This car (chassis no. RBM1) was built as the first bike engined car and used initially as the factory demo car with a Fireblade engine. It was then converted to GSXR1000 K8 by Tim Gray and raced successfully in the UK RGB front-engined class for a number of years until 2017 including a great run in Pembrey (https://youtu.be/Jpoy3zNKynI).
Because this was the factory car, I have all of the original build photos of this actual car and a huge spares package.
I bought the car in 2018 requiring some light refurbishment so it was stripped back and tidied up, fitted with a new front splitter & frame, dual plane rear wing, rear diffuser and custom-made tonneau cover. The engine is a strong low mileage GSXR1000 K8 and is in excellent condition running on Fuchs race oil using a West Performance dry sump system. It is located as far back as possible in the passenger footwell resulting in a 46%/54% weight distribution (including driver).
The sequential bike gearbox is used to drive a Bailey Morris propshaft back to the rear axle through a Quaife LSD and is operated by lever and cable. A new EBC race-spec clutch kit and high torque halfshafts (custom-made by Brand Eng in the UK in 2019) with a low ratio CWP have been fitted for sprinting, hillclimbing and trackdays resulting in a seriously quick and reliable car.
Additional specs as follows:
Pulsar spaceframe chassis with Carbon front body section (hinged to allow easy access to engine bay), GRP rear section and side pods - wet weight with full tank of fuel is only 510Kg!
GSXR1000 K8 (approx 180bhp @ flywheel) running Fuchs race oil with dry sump system, oil cooler fed through a 4-way thermostatic valve, electric water pump, alloy rad, new EBC race clutch kit, fully serviced and runs really well though a Power Commander but with lots more potential development too.
Ital rear axle with new custom-made half shafts (rated for 250bhp), Quaife ATB LSD (just serviced), new 3.66 CWP. Electric reverse plus spare 3.9 CWP.
Front (ventilated) discs running Wilwood 4-pot calipers and pads. Bias adjuster. Rear discs running Ford calipers and EBC pads.
13" rims - 1 set of nearly new Yokohama hillclimb slicks on 8.5" and 9.5" wide Compomotive split rims, 1 set of Toyo R888 tyres on 7.5" and 8.5" Compomotve rims.
Fully adjustable front and rear wishbone rose-jointed suspenstion and F&R anti-rollbars - recently corner weighted.
Alloy dual-plane adjustable rear wing on bolted Aluminium brackets (removable if required), new front splitter and frame, new rear diffuser, flat floor, ETB Digidash, GiPro gear display, custom wiring loom by Tim Gray including resettable trip switches, new plumbed extinguisher (2019), in-date belts (2021), Kirkey alloy race seat, removable suede flat bottom steering wheel, Carbon dash, alloy fuel tank, new Polycarbonate flyscreen, new fitted leather split tonneau cover.
There is also a large spares package with the car including numerous spare suspension parts, a radiator, some spare bodywork, new plugs, gear and throttle cables, spare diff (3.9), wishbones, radiator etc
This car is on the button, is very quick and ready to race/hillclimb/sprint. It has a Motorsport Ireland competition logbook and is located in Ireland (near Shannon airport) but can be shipped globally by agreement.
I am selling because I plan to hillclimb a single seater next year.
