1978 Historic Race Car
Subject to a body off restoration by the previous owner.
Chassis has been sand blasted and painted with etch primer. The car has never been stored outside since the rebuild and there is no corrosion.
Been a race car since so chassis / suspension in excellent condition. All polybushed / new bolts, etc – nothing seized or rusty
Full roll cage
Polycarbonate windows all round with custom side air intakes for rear inboard brake cooling
Front big brake conversion – 300mm vented discs with large Brembo 4 piston calipers
All brake and clutch lines braided.
New AVO adjustable coilovers all round with custom machined aluminium spring seats.
Camber is adjustable front and rear
Full width Aluminium Radiator – silicone hoses and stainless clips throughout
Twin electric fans
Single bespoke aluminium fuel tank on LHS (foam filled to prevent surge) – Twin Facet fuel pumps
RHS tank space now houses battery box with new Varley race battery (situated behind driver for better weight distribution)
Car completely rewired with simplicity and weight saving in mind. Pop-up headlights, etc retained so car can easily put back on the road. (for trackdays etc)

Just had oil renewed with Red Line MT-90
Dashboard has been stripped and reworked with removable centre console. All new switches on custom machined panels within original binnacle.

As it stands, the car is ready to be entered in MSA circuit racing and will be eligible for multiple different classes. SMRC / CSCC / HSCC etc
Braking and handling are excellent and very forgiving for a novice driver. Gearbox is one of the best I’ve driven in any car (let alone a rear engine one!) – lever throw is short and positive with zero backlash in the transmission.
I fitted a 912 engine as it was the best starting point for tuning. 180bhp stock and has the revised cam covers that don’t leak oil! Lots of upgrade options from CNC cylinder heads / aftermarket cams to stroked 2.5l full race engines achieving almost 300bhp.
Draws lots of attention in the paddock. Not many early Esprits fully prepared for racing. 1978 – so MOT and Tax exempt.
