Mini Clubman 1979 Mag Cover Car (R1 bike engine)
It has only done just a few hundred miles since the build was completed to fully set up. It was the cover car of Mini Magazine in May 2018. The objective of the build was to keep the car totally standard looking, but with it being far from standard underneath.
The car started as a very clean 1979 Mini Clubman, completely stripped and then sent off for blasting and acid etching. The shell has been fully seam welded before being painted in its original colour of pageant blue. All nuts, bolts and washers etc have been blasted and zinc coated.
998cc 20v DOHC 4XV YZF-R1 superbike engine with Fazer side draft carburettors. It has a proven 147bhp @ 9270rpm with printout to prove. The engine sits in a knights performance kit to keep all the panel work including the inner wings standard. A lot of work has gone into this to maintain the original panels rather than converting to a fibreglass front end.
Yamaha 6 speed sequential with Knights electric motor reverse gear kit.
Mini Sport 4 pot callipers on the front. Minifin drums on the rear with in-line pressure bias valve.
Minimalist and functional with period Corbeau seats, new carpets, door cards and headlining. The instrument cluster is from the R1. Has a purpose built wiring loom built by Pro-motive.
Wheels and tyres
10” reverse-rim innocent steels with 165/70/10 Yokohama tyres.
All put together this is a very special, unique classic Mini that has been redefined and reinvented. This is a serious package and would be suitable for shows, track days, hill climbing or fast road.
Has a fresh MOT and is ready to be enjoyed.
