Description:

The ever popular Austin A35s were raced by Graham Hill in 1958 as part of his award-winning team. In recent years this iconic little racing car has been successfully raced at events including the Goodwood Revival St Mary’s Trophy by the likes of Rae Davis, Martin Brundle, Steve Soper and Tony Jardine.

This Austin A35 FAS 329 car was built to a racing specification in 2011-12 and has raced at all the major British racing circuits. It came 3rd in class at Oulton Park in 2012 and won best prepared and presented car with the HRDC. It has been specified to be a winning car and can be sold with or without the engine and gear box if preferred. I am able to carry out any further modifications in my own workshop, if preferred, to your own requirements /specifications, and am most happy to discuss this with you.

The car was built by myself under the guidance of Rae Davis and features the following:
Body: Bare metal, nut and bolt rebuild. Rust free shell, having undergone total chemical cleaning and corrosion protection treatment by SPL prior to painting in Old English White. Photographs of work completed available on request. Strengthened and lightened chassis. FIA specification roll cage from Caged, widened rear wheel arches and alloy fuel tank mounted in boot. Steering column dropped. Heated front laminated windscreen and all other windows are Perspex.

Front Suspension: New lower strengthened wheel pans 600lbs springs. 1.00” tubular front anti roll bar and 1.5 negative camber trunions from RDR. Nylatron suspension bushes. Lever arm dampers. 4.50 x 13 Dunlop L section racing tyres on new period style wheels.

Engine: Present engine is a Classic & Modern prepared engine producing 130 bhp and over 100lbs of torque. Dyno documentation of these results is available if you require the engine. The engine has been refreshed completely over this winter and has only been run once.

Gearbox: Midget/Sprite ‘ribbed box’ rebuilt with MED Engineering straight cut gears. Front cover with hydraulic clutch release bearing and front lip seal. This gearbox has all new gear seals, bearings and bushes which have yet to be raced.

Rear Axle: Rebuilt with Rae Davis A-frame, Nylatron spring bushes. Bespoke leaf springs and lowering blocks (1.5”). LSD with 4.22.1 ratio used by Martin Brundle in 2010, setting a new lap record.at Goodwood RDR competition half shafts rear bearing hubs. Refurbished lever arm dampers.

Brakes: Front – Midget/Sprite front disc brakes and calipers, competition pads. Rear – New competition cylinders, drums and shoes. Bespoke handbrake.

Interior: FIA homologated driver’s seat. 6 point OMP harness, plumbed in fire extinguisher. Odyssey racing battery. Chronographic rev counter, oil pressure gauge, water temperature gauge. Bespoke door cards.

This 1957 Austin A35, built by myself and using all new parts wherever possible has to be one of the best looking A35’s out there. Will consider part exchange for another interesting pre-66 race car. Please call to discuss.
